Why the Connection Table Exists
The Connection Table was created to make food insecurity more visible, understandable, and human. While food insecurity is widespread, it is often misunderstood, stigmatized, or reduced to simplified narratives. Our work focus on creating clarity, dignity and showing people and their stories rather than assumptions.
How we Approach Food Insecurity
We approach food insecurity as a community issue shaped by economic, social, and health related factors. Rather than focusing on blame or charity alone, we emphasize education, storytelling, and engagement that reflects lived experience and structural realities. Our goal is to support understanding that leads to thoughtful, effective action.
What We Do
Educate by providing clear, evidence based information about what food insecurity is and isn't and why it matters.
Humanize the issue through stories and reflections that center dignity, resilience, and lived experience
Activate community awareness and engagement by highlighting meaningful ways individuals and organizations can contribute to solutions.
What We Are Not
The Connection Table is not a direct food provider, pantry, or social service agency. We do not replace existing organizations doing essential, on-the-ground work. Instead, we aim to complement those efforts by strengthening understanding, reducing stigma, and supporting informed community response.
Our Values
Dignity - People experiencing food insecurity deserve respect, not judgement
Clarity - Understanding must come before action
Evidence - Effective responses are informed by data and lived experience
Equity - Access to food is deeply connected to broader social conditions
Community - Sustainable change happens collectively
Who We Serve
The Connection Table is for anyone seeking a clearer, more thoughtful understanding of food insecurity. Including students, educators, healthcare professionals, community members, and advocates. We welcome those who want to learn, reflect, and engage constructively.
